THE DPWH eyes to open two lanes of the Andaya Highway in Lupi, Camarines Sur to ease heavy traffic in the area.

Lucy Castañeda, DPWH-Bicol information officer, said the road will be opened to motorists after work has been completed on Thursday or Friday.

"Dapat kahapon pa sana. Ngayon or bukas bubuksan na ang two-lane traffic," Castañeda said.

(The road should have opened Thursday. Two-lane traffic  will open either today (Dec. 20) or tomorrow (Dec. 21)

Castañeda said that installation of sheet piles and backfilling of materials are ongoing at the portion of highway that incurred scouring from typhoon "Kristine."

She said they are working round-the-clock to resolve traffic on Andaya Highway – a primary gateway to the Bicol region.

Castañeda said that ongoing reblocking was halted to avoid congestion and open up the two lanes.

"Pinahinto muna ‘yung mga reblocking sa lugar para magamit ‘yung dalawang lanes," she added.

(Reblocking activities were halted to enable the use of two lanes)

The Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office, Provincial Mobile Force Company, and Highway Patrol Group are working round-the-clock to manage and prevent counterflow that would worsen traffic.

A 30-minute interval scheme is being implemented to assure that traffic is moving, especially in Sitio Mauca, Barangay Colacling, Lupi.

A stop-and-go scheme every 30 minutes that allows southbound and northbound traffic is being implemented in Barangay Cabutagan.

An alternate road for light vehicles is the Sipocot-Camarines Norte or the Santa Elena-Capalonga, Daet, Camarines Norte route if they are traveling to or from Manila.

The Land Transportation Office-Bicol has deployed enforcers to help manage traffic. An advisory at 6 p.m. on Thursday said traffic in Ragay, Camarines Sur was light to moderate.
