Solar power systems result in savings for Bacolod city gov’t, 16 barangays


BACOLOD CITY – Solar power systems with a total of capacity of 1,340 kilowatts have been installed at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) and 16 barangays here as this city pushes for sustainable energy.

These systems are expected to generate a total energy savings of approximately P14,974,252.32 for this city per year.

As this city looks for cost-effective solutions for its energy needs, these are expected to generate significant energy savings, with each barangay projected to save around 50 percent of their energy costs.

The BCGC, where main government offices are situated, has the largest solar installation at 400 KW.

The City Engineer’s Office reported that barangays and areas with solar power systems were Barangay Alijis (40 KW), Barangay Taculing/Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office/gymnasium (150 KW), Barangay Granada/public market (80 KW), Barangay Villamonte/gymnasium (50 KW), Barangay Vista Alegre/Progresso Village/evacuation center/youth home (120 KW), Barangay Singcang Airport (40 KW), Barangay Tangub (40 KW), Barangay Estefania (40 KW), Barangay Pahanocoy (40 KW), Barangay 16 (Rizal Elementary School) (40 KW), Barangay Handumanan (40 KW), Barangay Punta Taytay (40 KW), Barangay Cabug (40 KW), Barangay Felisa (40 KW), and Barangay Sum-ag/barangay hall/public market (140 KW).

This initiative, according to the city, provides not only economic benefits but also contributes to its commitment to renewable energy and reducing its carbon footprint. It also contributes to energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
