The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a warning on Monday, Dec. 2, about the ongoing threat of flash floods and landslides due to continuous rainfall from the shear line and the northeast monsoon (amihan).
PAGASA Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda said the shear line, or the collision of warm air from the Pacific, known as the “easterlies,” and cold air due to the northeast monsoon, will bring heavy rainfall over parts of Luzon.
In the next 24 hours, heavy to intense rainfall—ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters—may affect Quezon, while moderate to heavy rains—ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters—may affect Isabela, Aurora, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Palawan, and Laguna.
Scattered light showers, with occasional heavy rains, may also affect Metro Manila, Occidental Mindoro, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan.
Meanwhile, Castañeda said the amihan may bring cloudy skies and rains over Cordillera Administrative Region and the rest of Cagayan Valley.
She warned of flash floods and landslides that may occur in the affected areas.
PAGASA said the impact of amihan will be minimal in Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon, where only isolated light rains are expected.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country may experience isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant for possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
