Police Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay police chief, said that the 85-year-old former local chief executive was found with possible bullet wounds to his left and right temple inside his room past 2 p.m.
Darroca said that the victim’s two helpers heard a gunshot while they were outside his room.
They checked and saw him wounded, prompting them to call for help.
Police recovered a slug and a revolver of unknown caliber. These will be subjected to ballistic examination.
Darroca said that helpers did not observe anything unusual from the victim, except that he was suffering from an illness for about three weeks now.
Police are probing a possible case of accidental firing. “We will check the surrounding circumstances and get the necessary pieces of evidence to determine what really happened,” Darroca said.
Gamban was mayor of Silay City from 2001 to 2007.
