The transparent jelly case that comes with the device is a welcome addition, providing basic protection right from the box.

Display  

Equipped with a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, the V40 Lite 5G offers vibrant colors and deep blacks. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and an enhanced viewing experience, especially when gaming or watching high-frame-rate videos. The screen's brightness levels are adequate for outdoor use, maintaining clarity even under direct sunlight. 

Performance  

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, the V40 Lite 5G easily handles daily tasks. Multitasking is smooth, thanks to the 8GB of RAM, and the 256GB of internal storage provides ample space for apps, photos, and media. 

Camera system  

The vivo V40 Lite 5G is equipped with a versatile camera system designed to deliver high-quality images and videos. On the rear, it features a dual-camera setup comprising a 50 MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, autofocus capabilities, and a dual-tone LED flash. This primary sensor is complemented by a 2 MP depth sensor that assists in creating bokeh effects for portrait shots. For selfies, the device offers a 32 MP front camera with an f/2.45 aperture, capable of recording videos up to 1080p resolution. AI-driven features and various shooting modes further enhance the camera system, enabling users to capture moments with clarity and artistic expression. 

The Aura Light feature, first introduced by vivo, made its debut with the vivo V29. It is designed to enhance portrait photography by providing even illumination and reducing shadows, making it ideal for low-light conditions.

It allows me to keep the light on continuously while taking photos or recording videos, and it even offers the ability to adjust the light's temperature for enhanced versatility and control over your shots.

Battery life 

The V40 Lite 5G has a 5,000mAh battery, delivering a full day of use even under moderate to heavy usage. It supports 80W FlashCharge via USB Type-C, allowing the device to go from 20% to 100% in about an hour. This fast-charging capability is especially convenient for me, as I prefer not to carry power banks when I'm out and about, ensuring I can stay connected without any hassle.

Software 

The intuitive and user-friendly user interface runs on Android 14 with Funtouch OS 14. Customization options allow users to tailor the experience to their liking. Pre-installed apps are minimal, reducing clutter and providing a cleaner user experience. 

Connectivity 

As a 5G-enabled device, the V40 Lite 5G offers faster data speeds where available. Call quality is clear, and network connectivity remains stable. Additional features include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS, ensuring comprehensive connectivity options. 

Additional features 

The vivo V40 Lite 5G comes with several additional features that significantly enhance its usability and overall experience. These include a responsive in-display fingerprint scanner for quick and secure access, and a face unlock option for added convenience. Audio enthusiasts will appreciate the dual speakers, which deliver a more immersive and balanced sound experience, whether watching videos or listening to music. The device is also equipped with advanced sensors, such as an accelerometer for motion detection, a gyroscope for enhanced gaming and augmented reality experiences, a proximity sensor for efficient screen management during calls, and a compass for navigation. Together, these features ensure a seamless and versatile user experience, catering to both everyday needs and advanced functionality.

My verdict 

The vivo V40 Lite 5G offers a compelling package for its price point. Its sleek design, vibrant display, capable performance, and versatile camera system make it a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone market. While a few areas could be refined, they are hardly deal-breakers and do not overshadow the device's strengths. Overall, my experience with it has been highly positive. For users seeking a balanced device with modern features and reliable performance, the V40 Lite 5G is a great choice.
