Coach Ynot never doubted FNOP and his players repaid the faith

This year is Onic’s time and never once head coach Tony “Ynot” Senedrin doubted that.

He was simply not vocal about it but ever since he formed his team, there was no question in his mind that Fnatic Onic Philippines would conquer the world.

And his wards did exactly just that.

Not only that the team gave the country its fifth straight world title but it completed in a perfect fashion, sweeping the world tilt with a perfect 7-0 record capped by a 4-1 victory over Team Liquid Indonesia in the grand finals.

“I really just don't want to claim something that is in the future. It was more of staying on the moment every day but with the capabilities that they have I just kept it to myself. The answer is yes I expected this from them,” said Ynot during the post-game presser.

FNOP has been on a tear in the second half of the year, setting a record streak of 13-0 in the regular season of the MPL Philippines Season 14 before breezing through the playoffs to claim its first league title.

And it was quite a feat for a team that was composed by a band of then-unproven players and a bunch of newcomers.

Its gold laner in Duane “Kelra” Pillas had a controversy-filled career early on. Its jungler King “K1NGKONG” Perez, EXP leaner Jann “Kirk” Gutierrez and sixth man Brain “SpiderMilez” all failed to make a mark in their previous teams. Its roamer Borris “Brusko” Parro struggled to find his footing overseas and its midlaner never had a group to help him blossom.

But Ynot believed they all have the quality to become world class – they just only needed the break.

“What I expected from my players is the trust (in each other) and executing what we do every single day,” said Ynot.

“I'm just really quite happy that they pushed through every single day. As for the results, I kinda think about it every day because you see the potential of the players,” he added.

“They are just really good and very gifted but hopefully, this doesn’t get to their heads because right after, I actually really thought about our next tournament.”
