Cop stabbed dead by romantic rival in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY — A policeman was allegedly stabbed to death on Dec. 16 by a laborer over a woman they were courting in Oton town, Iloilo province.

Police identified the victim as Staff Sgt. Erwin Calubayan of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Region 6.

Investigation said the victim and the suspect, Dan Garferio, a construction worker, were drinking in the sari-sari store of Donna Rose Gang when they had a violent and deadly altercation.

Calubayan went to Gang’s house to inform her that he was going home.

He was followed by the suspect and stabbed him. The victim drew his service firearm and shot the suspect in the stomach.

The victim was taken to the Western Visayas Medical Center in neighboring Iloilo City where he was declared dead.

Police are looking into jealousy as motive of the killing.

The victim and the suspect, who was arrested, were reportedly courting Gang.
