The House of Representatives supports and respects President Marcos' decision to postpone the signing of the proposed 2025 General Appropriations Bill (GAB), which according to Malacañang would allow for a meticulous review of the budget measure.

Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, House Committee on Appropriations chairman, had this to say Wednesday, Dec. 18 after the Palace announced that the P6.352-trillion GAB won't be signed on Dec. 20 as originally scheduled.

“We fully understand and commend President Marcos for his commitment to ensure that the national budget aligns with the country’s priorities,” Co said.

“This approach exemplifies the strength of our democratic processes and the effective system of checks and balances in our government," he added.

The President’s decision to postpone the budget’s enactment underscores his dedication to transparency and accountability, Co said.

By scrutinizing the proposed P6.352-trillion budget--the biggest in the country’s history--the administration aims to ensure that public funds are allocated efficiently and responsibly, the Bicolano added.

Co stressed Congress’ readiness to collaborate further during Malacanang's review process.

“We stand prepared to work alongside the President to refine the budget, ensuring it serves the best interests of all Filipinos,” he said.

It's mainly the appropriations panel's job to peruse and deliberate on the Palace's proposed annual outlay once it gets submitted to the House.
