2 hurt, 20 families displaced in Tondo fire

Two individuals were hurt, including a firefighter, in a fire that hit a residential area in Barangay 1, Tondo, Manila on Wednesday morning, Dec. 18.

The Bureau of Fire Protection identified the injured fireman as  Rogelio Agustin, 40, who sustained second-degree burns on his right hand, and the civilian as Alejandro Peniano, 54, who had a laceration on his right leg.

Authorities said the fire started at 4:08 a.m. inside a residential and commercial structure located along Elcano Street.

The fire reached the third alarm at 4:29 a.m. and was extinguished at 6:37 a.m. 

Four nearby structures were also affected by the fire. Investigators estimated the damage to property to around P200,000. 

The BFP continues to investigate the cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage.

Meanwhile, the local government said it has started providing assistance such as hot meals and modular tents to those affected by the incident.
