The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is establishing the National Halal Industry and Trade Office (NHIDO) to position the Philippines as a leading player in the global Halal industry by next year.
In a statement, DTI-Halal Industry and Trade Office Program Manager Dimnatang M. Radia said the initiative aims to strengthen the domestic Halal market and increase export opportunities for Filipino products and services.
"The establishment of NHIDO marks a turning point for the Philippine Halal industry. It will serve as a unifying force to transform our goals into reality, unlocking opportunities for businesses, creating jobs, and elevating the Philippines as a Halal-friendly destination globally,” Radia said.
The NHIDO will serve as the central coordinating body for all Halal development efforts in the country.
According to the DTI, by simplifying Halal certification and standards, the office aims to make it easier for medium, small, and micro enterprises (MSMEs) to participate in the Halal sector.
The NHIDO will also spearhead the "Halal-Friendly Philippines" campaign to promote the economic benefits of Halal products and services.
To support these goals, DTI said the office will partner with local government units and other agencies to improve Halal infrastructure, such as slaughterhouses and cold storage facilities.
Additionally, the NHIDO will create a Halal product database and implement monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure data-driven planning.
