DOLE: Salary hike for Caraga workers, 'kasambahay' effective Jan. 2

Minimum wage earners and domestic workers in the Caraga region are set to receive higher pay starting Jan. 2 next year following the approval of a wage increase by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said.

In a statement, the DOLE said the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) affirmed the RTWPB’s wage order, which grants a P50 daily wage increase for private sector workers in two tranches.

From the current P385, the daily minimum wage in Caraga will rise to P415 on Jan. 2 and further to P435 on May 1 with the second tranche.

For domestic workers, the RTWPB approved a P1,000 wage hike, raising their minimum monthly pay to P6,000 across the region.

The DOLE said the wage adjustment is expected to benefit 65,681 minimum wage earners, while an estimated 132,217 full-time wage and salary workers earning above the minimum wage may also gain from wage distortion corrections.

At least 32,866 domestic workers, including 7,939 under live-in arrangements, will benefit from the approved wage hike.

This adjustment follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s earlier directive for all regional wage boards to review minimum wage rates nationwide, with the process targeted for completion by year-end.

Caraga region is composed of the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands.
