Traffic enforcers of Carmona City in Cavite can soon access basic motor vehicle information of road safety violators following the signing of agreement for interconnectivity with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the interconnectivity agreement he signed with Carmona City Mayor Dahlia A. Loyola was aimed at ensuring the safety of all road users through effective and efficient enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.
He said the strict enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, can compel motorists to behave while using the road by providing local traffic enforcers with the basic data on how to identify and hold liable any erring drivers.
“We in the LTO cannot enforce road safety laws alone, especially outside Metro Manila. We need the LGUs and like the City Government of Carmona, it has been doing very well in assisting the national government in its goal of making the roads safe for everybody,” said Mendoza.
“And we can do things much better with the signing of this interconnectivity agreement because the LTO could provide the City Government of Carmona the basic information they need for the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations,” he added.
Mendoza cited an example on how the interconnectivity agreement between the LTO and the LGU of Carmona can improve the enforcement of the laws such as in the case when motorists who would be able to escape any traffic enforcer after violating traffic regulations could be later identified once the license plate is obtained.
“The LGU of Carmona City could send us the information and in return, the LTO could issue a Show Cause Order to the registered owners of vehicles that violated traffic rules and regulations,” said Mendoza.
For her part, Loyola emphasized the importance of the access of their traffic enforcers to basic vehicle information.
“By maximizing the power of information and communication technology, we can update our data real time, achieve better coordination and ensure more effective enforcement of road rules. Who would have thought that with just a simple tap, we can connect with LTO and enable seamless monitoring,” said Loyola.
“Indeed, we are not only strengthening road safety and making transactions more convenient, we are also cultivating a culture of accountability, integrity and discipline,” she added.
