Cloudy, rainy across most of the Philippines due to 3 weather systems
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Dec. 16, that three weather systems may bring cloudy and rainy weather across most of the archipelago in the next 24 hours.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the country's dominant weather systems are the shear line, northeast monsoon (amihan), and Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
He added that, as of Monday, PAGASA has not monitored a low-pressure area or tropical cyclone within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) or over the Pacific Ocean.
In the next 24 hours, the shear line, formed by the collision of cold winds from the amihan and warm winds from the easterlies, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Bicol Region.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ may also affect Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Davao Region.
The ITCZ is a weather system formed by the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.
Cloudy skies with rains may also prevail over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora due to the amihan.
PAGASA warned of flash floods or landslides in areas affected by the three weather systems, particularly during moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said the ITCZ may have minimal impact on the rest of Mindanao, where only partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers are expected.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains may also persist in the rest of Luzon.
The rest of the Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
