The Bureau of Customs – Intelligence Group (BOC-IG) concluded the year with a record P81 billion worth of seized contraband amid intensified efforts in combating smuggling and enhancing border security.
During a command conference where the agency reviewed its annual performance and charted its course for 2025, Director Verne Y. Enciso of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) noted the BOC-IG's solid progress.
Enciso noted the substantial increase in seizures from P24 billion in 2022 to P81 billion in 2024.
He attributed this success to the leadership of Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio and Deputy Commissioner Juvymax R. Uy.
“Two years later, here we are, with results that speak for themselves. Under the visionary leadership of Commissioner Rubio and Deputy Commissioner Uy, the Intelligence Group has made remarkable strides in performance,” Enciso said.
“From 729 seizures worth PhP24 billion in 2022, we have now, in 2024, achieved an astounding 1,537 seizures with a total value of PhP81 billion—and counting,” he added.
The CIIS-MICP office contributed significantly to this achievement, accounting for over half of the total seizures with P55 billion worth of contraband items, according to Intelligence Officer 4 Alvin Enciso.
Seized items included illegal drugs, vape products, frozen mackerel, luxury vehicles, general merchandise, used clothing, counterfeit goods, and agricultural products.
The command conference, attended by BOC-IG field office heads from across the country, also included presentations on key cases, ongoing operations, and a roadmap for 2025.
Meanwhile, Rubio urged IG officials to maintain their momentum in strengthening border security and trade facilitation.
He noted, “Good governance and effective measures against illicit trade have strengthened the organization’s collaborative efforts, enhanced border security, and facilitated smoother trade processes. With this in mind, I encourage you to build upon your progress and conclude the year with renewed dedication as we gear up for more years of excellence.”
