ILOILO CITY – Authors from Roxas City, the provincial capital of Capiz, recently unveiled a children’s book set.
AUTHORS and illustrators of 'Ilawod: Five Children’s Book Set.'
The “Ilawod: Five Children’s Book Set” was produced under the Lunsod Lunsad Project of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
“This project brings together some of the city’s most celebrated writers and artists to breathe life into five children’s books that showcase the rich cultural heritage and imaginative spirit of Roxas City and the province of Capiz,” said author Christian George Acevedo.
“This literary endeavor invites readers of all ages to explore the rich narratives and artistic brilliance that define the city’s identity,” Acevedo added.
Acevedo authored “Lin-ay” that centers on the babaylanes (female shamans) of pre-colonial Panay Island. It features illustrations by Aaliaa Sharma.
“Kapid” is a family tale and a story about the bond of siblings written by Palanca-winning author Bryan Mari Argos and illustrated by John Alaban.
THE five-set book collection.
“Biyahe ni Paul” features the mythical origins of Olotayan, the city’s only island barangay, authored by Andrew Aponesto with illustrations by John Paul Bansale.
“Akon Balay” by Shane Martinez and Maru Alayon is a contemporary tale of the youth set against the coastal backdrop of Roxas City, dubbed as the “Seafood Capital” of the country.
Written by award-winning filmmaker Gary Tabanera, “Ang Dalaga nga May Madakmul nga Dapa-dapa”
is a story on Visayan mythology and has illustrations from Rex Randell Namoc.
The project was supported by the Roxas City government and one of the sidelights of the 2024 Sinadya Festival.
