Sen. Lito Lapid openly addressed criticisms about not completing a formal education.

Despite a lack of college degree, Lito has emphasized the importance of education to his children, encouraging them to pursue their studies, and value academic achievement.

Lito, seeking reelection to the Senate in 2025, believes that education is a foundation for a better future. He aims to instill this belief within his family.

(To this day, I am still being insulted, saying that I lack education. Maybe with my 30 years of experience serving our country in government and politics, if I had studied, I would have finished," said Lito when asked about skipping formal education when he became a senator during a press conference on Roces Avenue in Quezon City recently.

(If I had studied to be a lawyer, that would have been 10 years. I would have finished my studies. As for the master's degree, I already have a master's degree in political experience for service to our country. I'm probably also equal in experience in serving our country.)"

Asked for his message for celebrities joining politics, Lito said: "Pagbutihin nila kung papasok sila sa pulitika. (I hope they do well. When a movie star enters politics, it seems like they have no rights. It's the same if a politician enters showbiz, it seems like the same thing.)

Gustong mag-serbisyo. (We just have the same mindset and I also studied a little. We're not abnormal. I hope they give us a chance. We want to serve)," the senator said.

Lito urged his children to redeem his name by completing their education.

(I told my son, Mark, you must redeem my name. Study. I don't want you to experience the ridicule I have caused you.)

(I accept that I didn't get an education. I'm not ashamed of being the son of a laundrywoman)

(Study so that we won't be laughed at. I'm grateful to my children that they were able to complete their education)," Lito added.

Lito was recently accompanied by his son Mark Lapid, the Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, during Christmas lunch for showbiz press.

The senator mentioned he would miss "FPJ's Ang Batang Quiapo" when the midterm election campaign season begins in February 2025.

The senator-actor stated that the Commission on Elections prohibits celebrities from appearing in television shows or movies during the campaign period.

When asked to choose between showbiz and politics, Lito said he wants to make more movies because he is still under contract with Regal Entertainment. (If someone still hires me, I will still make movies.)

Lito mentioned that his showbiz friends in the Senate joked about his romantic interest with award-winning actress Lorna Tolentino, dubbed PriManda, in the Kapamilya series "Batang Quiapo."

But Lito said he and Lorna are just friends. "Tuksuhan lang. (They are just teasing us.)"

Lito mentioned that his love team with Lorna caters to senior citizens. He expressed gratitude for the appreciation received from viewers. (I think we're the oldest love team today.)"
