The award was presented by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and was received by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD).

The local government of Caloocan was selected for this award for its efforts in improving DRRM policies such as integrating internationally-accepted and sustainable policies in its practices as well as ensuring disaster preparedness in all levels.

Among the projects that were highlighted were the establishment of Alert and Monitoring Stations in various areas as well as the utilization of the “888-ALONG” hotline.

Mayor Malapitan expressed his delight upon receiving the city’s recognition.

“Isang malaking karangalan na tanggapin mula mismo kay Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ang pagkilala bilang numero uno sa buong Pilipinas pagdating sa pagtugon sa mga sakuna at kalamidad (It is a great honor to receive recognition from President Bongbong Marcos himself as being the number one in the entire Philippines when it comes to responding to disasters and calamities.),” he said.

He looked back on the promise he made since he took office to make the city as one of the leading Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office in the country.

With this award, Malapitan said it is both a challenge and an inspiration for Caloocan CDRRMD to further strengthen their DRRM programs.

The city mayor likewise congratulated the CDRRMD and assured his constituents that the concerned offices of the city government will continue to work together in ensuring the safety and well-being of the public during calamities and other emergencies.

In the past, Caloocan city was also recognized with this award for three consecutive times on a regional level.
