Investigation said the suspect went to the house of the victims Bernardo Perez Sampan, 42, and Narcisa Sabroso Sampan, 41, to borrow money.
The couple turned down the suspect’s attempt to loan again due to an unsettled debt.
Bernardo noticed that the suspect was armed and tried to grapple for the gun but was overpowered. The suspect shot the couple and their adopted daughter Cleah, 14, dead.
The suspect took the victims’ motorcycle and escaped.
Police arrested Batiller in Barangay Esperanza, Poro, Camotes Island on Saturday morning, Dec. 14, after receiving a report that an armed man was sleeping in a shanty. Batiller tried to escape but was cornered after a brief chase.
The suspect’s .45 caliber pistol and the victims’ Honda Click motorcycle were recovered.
The other child of the couple, who escaped unharmed, said his parents gave the suspect food when he arrived in their house.
Police said Narcisa was willing to loan money to the suspect but Bernardo was not.
“Batiller’s allegation was that the wife was willing but the husband was against it,” said Police Patrolman Ramil Suralta, case investigator of the San Francisco Police Station.
