Dec. 14 to 20 weather outlook: Rainy conditions likely due to LPA, other systems
At A Glance
- In its weekly weather outlook released on Friday, Dec. 13, PAGASA said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), northeast monsoon (amihan), and shear line are expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms across several regions.
- The agency also pointed out the formation of an LPA that could bring widespread rainfall and thunderstorms over parts of Mindanao early next week.
- PAGASA said there is a low to moderate chance that this weather disturbance could develop into a tropical depression.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said various weather systems, including a low-pressure area (LPA) may bring rainfall across the country from Dec. 14 to 20.
In its weekly weather outlook released on Friday, Dec. 13, PAGASA said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), northeast monsoon (amihan), and shear line are expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms across several regions.
The agency also pointed out the formation of an LPA that could bring widespread rainfall and thunderstorms over parts of Mindanao early next week.
On Saturday, Dec. 14, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ—a weather system formed by the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.
Bicol Region and Quezon will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms caused by the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, or the “easterlies.”
Meanwhile, the amihan will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao.
Partly cloudy to, at times, cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected over Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
By Sunday, Dec. 15, the shear line, formed by the collision of cold winds of the amihan and the warm winds from the easterlies, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms to Bicol Region and Quezon.
The amihan will continue to bring cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, CAR, and Central Luzon, while partly cloudy to, at times, cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected over Ilocos Region.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
LPA formation
From Monday to Wednesday, Dec. 16 to 18, the shear line will continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Bicol Region, Calabarzon, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, and Aurora.
Due to the formation of an LPA during this period, Caraga, Davao Region, and Northern Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms.
PAGASA said there is a low to moderate chance that this weather disturbance could develop into a tropical depression.
Meanwhile, the amihan will bring mostly cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley and CAR, while partly cloudy to, at times, cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected over Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon.
The rest of the archipelago will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a chance of localized rain showers or thunderstorms.
From Thursday to Friday, Dec. 19 to 20, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao may generally experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the combined effects of the LPA and the shear line.
The amihan may bring mostly cloudy skies with light rains over Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Apayao, Rizal, and Laguna, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected over Ilocos Region, the rest of CAR, and the rest of Calabarzon.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with the possibility of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
