A woman was hurt while 20 houses were razed in a fire that broke out at a residential area in Barangay 218, Tondo, Manila, on Thursday, Dec. 12.
The injured woman was identified as Celina Tappa, 43, who sustained a puncture wound on her left foot.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire allegedly originated from the second floor of a three-story residential building located along Antipolo Street.
The blaze was raised to the first alarm at 5:44 p.m. and reached the second alarm at 5:51 p.m. It was immediately elevated to the third alarm at 5:55 p.m.
It took the fire responders almost four hours before the blaze was fully extinguished at 9:23 p.m.
Some residents pointed to an unattended candle as the possible source of the fire. Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the fire.
Initial reports indicated that the property damage from the incident was estimated at P750,000.
The fire displaced around 60 families, or approximately 180 individuals, in the area.
The BFP said the residents were able to evacuate safely.
