The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Friday, Dec. 13, the extension of the Cauplasan Bridge closure along the Ilocos Norte-Apayao Road until Jan. 31, 2025, due to "unforeseen delays" in its rehabilitation.
In a statement, the DPWH clarified that the 50-year-old bridge remains closed to heavy vehicles, while light vehicles weighing up to six tons can still pass through.
However, the agency did not specify the cause of delay of the bridge's rehabilitation.
Motorists driving heavier vehicles are advised to take alternative routes, including Sarrat Bridge, C-5 Road, and the Laoag-Sarrat-Piddig-Solsona Road, to reach the Municipality of Solsona.
The P5 million rehabilitation project is funded by DPWH, with support from Senator Imee Marcos and the provincial government of Ilocos Norte.
Drivers are also urged to follow posted traffic signs to ensure smooth traffic flow during the extended closure.
