ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro has clarified that the alleged police shooting incident she encountered on Wednesday night, Dec. 11, happened along Makati Avenue in Makati City, instead of Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig.

"I wish to set the record straight. The incident where I witnessed a police officer discharge his firearm happened along Makati Avenue in Makati City,” Castro said in a statement on Friday, Dec. 13.

“Nagkamali po tayo ng lokasyon sa unang report, at humihingi ako ng paumanhin sa Taguig LGU (local government unit)," she added.

(We made a mistake regarding the location in the initial report, and I apologize to the Taguig LGU.)

During the House quad-committee (quad-comm) hearing on Thursday, Castro expressed concern about her security as she narrated that two police officers after a man riding a motorbike right outside her own vehicle.

One of the police officers supposedly fired his gun. She said this was in an area where there were civilians and heavy traffic.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), in a statement, said their records showed that the incident occurred in Makati instead of BGC, which Castro originally claimed.

However, the congresswoman said that regardless of location, a police officer discharging a firearm in a busy area remains a serious concern that demands investigation and accountability.

"Whether in Makati or Taguig, this kind of dangerous police behavior is unacceptable and must be addressed," she stressed.

The NCRPO has since relieved the chief of the Makati City police and other personnel involved in the incident from their posts.

"We appreciate that NCRPO leadership took immediate action by relieving the involved officers pending investigation. Kailangan po nating matiyak na may pananagutan ang sinumang pulis na naglalagay sa panganib ang buhay ng mamamayan," Castro said.

(We need to ensure that any police officer who endangers the lives of citizens is held accountable.)

"We will continue to monitor the progress of the investigation to ensure that appropriate measures are taken and that such incidents will not happen again in any part of Metro Manila," she continued.

During her manifestation in the quad-comm hearing, Castro linked the incident to her criticisms against the Dutertes.

“Alam niyo naman po, Mr. Chair, minsan na po akong pinagbantaan ng dating presidente Duterte at sa araw-araw na pagsasalita rin ng Vice president Sara Duterte ay ako ay sini-single out,” she was quoted as saying.

(As you know, Mr. Chair, I have been threatened by former president Duterte before, and Vice President Sara Duterte singles me out in her daily statements.)
