Makati police chief, other cops sacked over party-list solon's report on shooting incident

The chief of police of Makati City and other police personnel were sacked from their posts following the concerns raised by Act Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro about a policeman firing his gun near her car in Makati City.

Police  Brig. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the relief of the Makati City police chief, the station commander of the Sub-Station 6 in Makati and other personnel involved was part of the conduct of the investigation into the incident.

“Pending investigation, the Chief of Police of Makati City Police Station, the Police Commander of Sub-Station 6 and personnel directly involved in the incident will be relieved from their posts to pave way to an impartial inquiry on the matter,” the NCRPO statement read.

Aberin’s order for investigation stemmed from the statement issued by Castro during a House hearing about how she witnessed a policeman fired his gun near her vehicle. 

While Castro said the incident happened at the Bonifacio Global City, the police report stated that it happened along Makati Avenue at around 11 p.m. on Dec. 11.

Castro narrated that it started when a motorcycle riding men was chased by a police car. The motorcycle, she said, went at the back of her car and it was then that the cop allegedly fired his gun

Castro questioned why the policeman fired his gun in a busy street with civilian motorists, commuters and pedestrians. 

Aberin said he immediately ordered a thorough investigation into the incident as soon as he was informed of the statement by Castro during the Quad-Committee hearing on Thursday, Dec 12.

“Right now, our investigators are on the ground to determine the details of the incident.  Part of the investigation is to find out why no report was made by Makati City Police Station regarding the incident,” said Aberin. 

“NCRPO would like to assure everyone, especially Hon Franz Castro that NCRPO will uncover the details of what happened and if any members of NCRPO committed transgressions against policies, they will not be tolerated and will be penalized accordingly,” he added.

Aberin emphasized that all police operations should be conducted in accordance with the Police Operational Procedures.

“Any deviations from the Police Operational Procedures during operations will be dealt with accordingly,” said Aberin.
