Aboitiz Power's largest solar project energized in Negros Occidental

Aboitiz Power Corporation's renewable energy unit, Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI), has energized its largest solar project to date, the 173-megawatt peak (MWp) Calatrava Solar Project in Negros Occidental.

"Calatrava is our fifth energized solar facility and the largest in Aboitiz Power's growing solar generation portfolio," said Jimmy Villaroman, ARI President. “This project would not be possible without the help of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.”

Construction began in 2023 on the 143-hectare site.

Villaroman acknowledged the support of the NGCP in energizing the facility and connecting it to the Calatrava substation.

This latest project brought Aboitiz Power's total energized capacity to 512 MW, including 159-MWp Laoag Solar and 94-MWp Cayanga-Bugallon Solar power plants in Pangasinan; 17-MW Tiwi Binary Geothermal Power Plant in Albay; SN Aboitiz Power's 24-MW Magat battery energy storage system (BESS) in Isabela; and 45-MWp Armenia Solar Project in Tarlac (energized last month)

In addition to these projects, Aboitiz Power is developing a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Laguna in partnership with Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Co. Ltd.

Aboitiz Power has over 1,000 MW of disclosed projects in development across various renewable energy sources, including solar, hydro, geothermal, and wind, along with energy storage systems.

The company aims to add 3,600 MW of new renewable energy capacity over the next six years, achieving a balanced generation portfolio of 9,200 MW with 50 percent renewable energy.

While focusing on renewable energy growth, Aboitiz Power continues to invest in thermal power plants to ensure a reliable baseload supply and meet peak energy demands.
