The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the country will remain free of tropical cyclones from Dec. 12 to 14.
Based on PAGASA's historical records, one or two tropical cyclones typically enter or form within the country’s area of responsibility in December, but none has formed so far.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja on Wednesday, Dec. 11 said that while no tropical cyclones are expected until the weekend, three weather systems may cause rainy conditions over parts of the country during this period.
From Thursday to Saturday, Dec. 12 to 14, he said the northeast monsoon (amihan) will continue to bring cooler temperatures and light to moderate rains over Northern Luzon.
Meanwhile, the shear line, which forms where the cold winds of the northeast monsoon meet the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies), may trigger scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, and surrounding areas.
Estareja added that the easterlies will bring frequent rains and thunderstorms over portions of Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.
The public is advised to remain vigilant for flash floods and landslides, especially in areas affected by moderate to heavy rainfall from these weather systems.
