Makati City Mayor Abby Binay personally received the official Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) marker from the DILG and is set to receive an SGLG Incentive Fund amounting to P2 million.

The cash award will be utilized to support local development initiatives that align with national goals and strategic priorities, further enhancing the city's progress and impact.

Institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11292 in 2019, the SGLG acknowledges local government units (LGUs) that demonstrate excellence in governance, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and the efficient delivery of public services.

To qualify for the award, LGUs must meet rigorous standards across ten governance areas including financial administration and sustainability; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business-friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace, and order; environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture, and arts; and youth development.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC has given Makati City a Beyond Compliant rating during its annual conferment of the Gawad Kalasag (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) Seal and Special Awards for Local DRRM Councils and Offices.

For three years now, the city has exceeded the standards for the establishment and functionality of LDRRMCs as prescribed in Republic Act 10121.

Besides obtaining the NDRRMC’s highest rating of Beyond Compliant for the third time in a row, Makati has also been named Regional Winner for the Best Government Emergency Management Teams (GEMs) category in the National Capital Region.

“These prestigious awards are solid testaments to the hard work and dedication of every employee of Makati,” Binay said.

“Our commitment to good governance and service excellence remains steadfast, as we strive to provide our citizens with programs and initiatives that truly make a difference in their lives,” she added.

A strong advocate of proactive disaster preparedness and response, Binay has been extending financial assistance and technical support to various localities in the country.

She also led the deployment of search and rescue teams to areas that have been devastated by various calamities.
