Rising star Kacey Dela Rosa added another feather to her glowing cap as she formally received her second straight Most Valuable Player plum in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Mall of Asia Arena.
The 20-year-old Ateneo standout took home the highest individual honors after tallying 96.286 Statistical Points (SP) off 22.1 points, 16 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.7 blocks throughout the elimination phase.
She powered the Blue Eagles into a fourth-place finish in the standings but eventually bowed to Adamson in the stepladder semifinal stage.
With her feat, the 6-foot center became the fifth cager to win back-to-back MVPs and only the second Atenean to do so since Cassy Tioseco in Seasons 69 and 70.
"Super happy ko kasi nakuha ko yung back-to-back MVPs. Pero siguro hindi pa rin ako satisfied kasi marami pa ako kulang sa games ko," said Dela Rosa.
“Naglu-look talaga ako sa team effort, pero happy naman,” she added.
Apart from the MVP award, Dela Rosa also spearheads the Mythical Five that was also composed of University of Santo Tomas’ Kent Pastrana, University of the Philippines’ Louna Ozar, National University’s Angel Surada and teammate Sarah Makanjuola.
NU’s Cielo Pagdulagan also shared the spotlight after bagging the Rookie of the Year award with 56.571 SPs off 9.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest.
Adamson took part in the brief awarding ceremony to bring home its third-place trophy.
