First glass walkway in Philippines unveiled in Batangas

BATANGAS CITY - The country's first glass walkway was unveiled here on Monday, Dec. 9.

BATANGAS is home to the country's first glass walkway.

The inauguration was led by Gov. Hermilando Mandanas, Department of Tourism Undersecretary Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, and DOT-Calabarzon Regional Director Marites Castro.

The Montemaria Miracle Walk and the Verde Island Passage Marine Biodiversity Center at the Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center are the first glass walkway in the country, according to the Batangas Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office.

The Verde Island Passage Marine Biodiversity Center with a length of 118 meters and 45-meters high is a digital aquarium located on the fourth floor of the Tower of Peace.

It aims to showcase an immersive experience of the visual wonders of the Verde Island Passage’s abundant marine life, including corals, fish, and other aquatic organisms, and offers a breathtaking aerial view of the Batangas Bay.

This unique attraction provides a thrilling experience for visitors as they walk across a transparent glass floor, suspended above the picturesque landscape.

The glass is three-inches thick with imported metal and reinforcement for the rest of the structure.

Construction began in 2023 and the walkway is part of a larger theme park.

The Montemaria Miracle Walk attraction is set to be opened to the public soon, offering an exciting and educational experience for visitors, tourists, and pilgrims, and is expected to boost tourism in Batangas and contribute to the local economy.

Based on the project overview, the Verde Island Passage is a global biodiversity hotspot often called “the center of shore fish biodiversity in the world.” It faces threats from unsustainable practices and climate change.
