BACOLOD CITY – A total of 370 policemen have been deployed to five areas in Negros Occidental affected by the Kanlaon Volcano eruption.
Police Capt. Wilma Silva, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental police, said that 64 were from various police stations in the province. They were sent to Bago and La Carlota cities and the towns of Murcia, La Castellana, and Pontevedra.

Silva said that 118 were deployed to 25 evacuation centers in 35 affected barangays while others assisted in evacuation, especially in areas within the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone, in coordination with different local disaster risk reduction management offices.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is on alert after the eruption on Monday, Dec. 9, and is on standby to respond to affected areas.
Police Col. Rainerio de Chavez, Negros Occidental police director, said that they are monitoring the situation, and coordinating with local government units (LGUs) to ensure the enforcement of the guidelines for public safety.
De Chavez said that policemen, whose families were affected by the eruption, were advised to check on their families first before serving the community.
Coast Guard
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-District Southern Visayas has deployed personnel to assist in relief operations.
Commodore Ludovico Librilla Jr., commander of PCG District Southern Visayas, said that four response teams were sent to La Castellana and Canlaon City, Negros Oriental after the eruption.
He added that a PCG vessel in Iloilo has been loading relief goods to this city for affected families in Negros Occidental.
Army response
The Army 3rd Infantry Division has activated its Disaster Response Task Units to help evacuate affected residents and assist LGUs in their disaster response efforts.
The 3rd ID, through the 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde) and 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB), has deployed personnel and equipment to Canlaon City and La Castellana.
Other disaster response teams from the 79th and 94th IBs and the 542nd Engineer Construction Battalion are on standby and alert status. They are prepared to deploy to other affected areas, including La Carlota City.
Major Gen. Marion Sison, 3rd ID commander, said that they are coordinating with LGUs, closely monitoring the situation, and prepared to offer immediate support to those in need.
“Our teams are equipped to handle rescue operations, evacuation, and provide essential services and supplies,” Sison said.
“We understand the fear and uncertainty that comes with a natural disaster, and we are here to help,” he said as he urged people to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of authorities.
