PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia – Filipino imports Mark “Kramm” Rusiana and John “Innocent” Banal as well as head coach Michael “Arcadia” Bocado remained on track for a Golden Road feat after their Selangor Red Giants staved off elimination with a 3-0 sweep of NIP Flash in the lower bracket of the M6 World Championships here.
The Filipino duo took turns in leading the way for the Malaysian champions as they dominated their Singaporean counterparts in the do-or-die affair – much to the delight of the home crowd inside the IOI City Grand Exhibition and Convention Center on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Not only that the win kept SRG in contention for the world title but also preserved its bid for a Golden Road feat alive.
A Golden Road is a historic feat where an esports team won four premier tournaments in a year – in the case for MLBB Esports, winning two consecutive local league titles, a Mid-season championship and a world crown.
SRG has won two MPL Malaysia titles this year along with an MSC crown, leaving the M-Worlds title as the only crown the Malaysian crew needs to win to complete the feat.
In history, only two teams have managed to get close to achieving Golden Road – first with Brazil’s RRQ’s Akira in 2022 and then Onic Indonesia in 2023.
Innocent and Kramm set the tone for the rout as SRG took a commanding 2-0 lead.
The former had a neat 4-0-4 line on the Bruno pick in the series opener before running wild with an explosive 9-1-3 line on the Granger in Game 2 while Kramm finished with a 3-0-4 KDA on the Hilda and a 3-1-8 tally on the Gatotkaca.
Innocent continued to shine in the series clinching win, lifting the SRG to a tight 16-15 Game 3 decision with an impressive 7-1-7 line on Bruno.
In the earlier game, Russian crew Team Spirit sent the other Malaysian team, Team Vamos packing with a 3-1 victory.
