Special permits for public utility vehicles will be given to public utility vehicles (PUVs) in anticipation for the influx of commuters on the days leading to Christmas and New year celebrations, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Sunday, Dec. 1.
LTFRB chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said the agency is now accepting applications for special permits that will be valid from Dec. 20 to Jan. 4 next year.
"For the special permit for Christmas, we will start opening the application on December 15. Like the usual practice, we are opening slots for special permits to ensure that there are ample PUVs that would cater to our riding public during the holidays," said Guadiz.
“The move is consistent with the LTFRB's mandate to ensure efficient and safe public transportation for Filipino passengers,” he added.
The special permits include 5,000 slots for Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS).
Guadiz then urged commuters to plan their travels ahead and to remain vigilant to ensure a safe and smooth journey: “Please patronize legitimate public transportation, follow safety protocols, and report any overcharging, overloading, or other violations through our official hotlines and channels.”
He said the LTFRB is working closely with operators and enforcers to manage the expected increase in passengers during the holidays.
