FAMY, Laguna – A New People's Army amazon was killed in an encounter with soldiers here on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 28.
The fatality was identified as Agnes Lingay, alias Jimy, Judy, and Esek.
Soldiers were conducting security operations when they engaged communist rebels allegedly conducting extortion activities in the area.
The NPA fled after a brief encounter.
Recovered in the encounter site were a short firearm with a magazine with six bullets, a backpack, handheld radio, a headset, medicines, and personal belongings.
The military credited the people for neutralizing another communist rebel.
"The support of our fellow citizens is a testament to their confidence in our efforts to maintain peace and security. Rest assured, we remain committed to protecting our communities and responding promptly to any threats that endanger their safety and well-being," 2nd Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr. said.
Balaoro said that while the government does not rejoice in the loss of lives, it remains resolute in its mission to end insurgency and restore lasting peace in affected areas.
