Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, along with Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto thanked President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. for personally extending help to more than 2,000 families who have been rendered homeless in a fire that hit the populous residential area of Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila.
"Mahal naming Pangulo, sa ngalan po ng buong barangay ng Isla Puting Bato, maraming maraming salamat po sa inyo. Sana po ay 'wag kayong magsawa sa pagtulong sa aming mga Manileños (Dear President, on behalf of the entire barangay of Isla Puting Bato, thank you very much. I hope you will not get tired of helping our Manileños)," the mayor said to President Marcos, Jr.
"Ang Lungsod po ng Maynila ay taos-pusong nagpapasalamat sa mabilis at malasakit na hakbang na ginawa ng inyong pamahalaan sa pagbigay ng tulong sa aking mga kababayan na nawalan ng tahanan at ari-arian. Nawa'y magpatuloy pa ang inyong magandang serbisyo para sa kapakanan ng bawat isa sa ating bansa (The City of Manila sincerely appreciates the swift and compassionate steps taken by your government in providing assistance to my countrymen who lost their homes and property. May your good service continue for the welfare of everyone in our country)," the mayor further said in gratitude for the national government's assistance.
President Marcos and the mayor were joined by other national and local officials led by the Department of Social Welfare (DSWD) Head Rex Gatchalian, Nieto, first district Congressman candidate Manny Lopez and Manila City councilors, as they distributed various kinds of assistance to the fire victim families, that include food packs and cash, among others.
The mayor and Nieto also began the distribution of Christmas food boxes to all the 700,000 households in the city on December 1.
"Gusto namin, meron kayong pagsasaluhan sa Pasko...sana ay pagdamutan ninyo ang aming munting nakayanan ngayong taon. Sama-Sayang Kapaskuhan sa bawat pamilyang Manilenyo (We want you to have something to share this Christmas... hopefully you will appreciate our little accomplishments this year. Merry Christmas to every Manileño family)," the mayor said.
The food boxes contain five kilos of rice, pasta and sauce, cheese, milk, canned mixed fruits and several cans of corned beef.
