BAGUIO CITY – Police arrested a couple for allegedly selling pre-registered Subscriber Identification Module cards in an entrapment operation in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan on Nov. 26.
Police Col. Larry Buansi, chief of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-Cordillera Administrative Region, said they discovered the couple’s illegal activities through social media where they advertised the sale of pre-registered SIM cards in a buy-and-sell group.
An undercover police officer arranged a transaction with the suspects – a 28-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man – in Barangay Cablong.
The suspects were apprehended after they sold 588
pre-registered and unregistered SIM cards valued at P8,820 to the poseur-buyer.
They are facing charges for violating Republic Act 11934, the SIM Registration Act and Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Buansi called on the public to report cybercrime-related activities by contacting their unit or their cyber response team through their hotlines or official social media accounts.
