4,400 loose guns seized in Cagayan Valley in 5 years

CAMP MARCELO A. ADDURU, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Police Regional Office-2 seized 4,400 loose firearms in the Cagayan Valley region from 2019 to 2024.

PRO-2 chief Police Brig. General Antonio P. Marallag Jr. said that three firearms were captured by the Isabela Police Provincial Office, eight by the Cagayan PPO, and 92 by Isabela PPO totaling 100.

Eight-hundred fifty-two were surrendered – Cagayan PPO with 110, Isabela PPO, 537; Quirino, 61; Nueva Vizcaya, 143, and Santiago City, one.

Marallag said 2,482 firearms were deposited in five years while 952 firearms were deposited beyond the last five years.

Eleven had forfeited firearms licenses – 10 from the Cagayan PPO and one from the Quirino PPO.

Marallag said that they will operations to dismantle illegal firearms and resolve crimes.

Meanwhile, the Regional Joint Security Control Council Region 2 was reactivated on Wednesday for the May elections.

Regional officials from different law enforcement agencies were present.

Commission on Elections-Cagayan Valley Regional Director Boris Ma T. Banauag discussed Comelec Resolution No. 11067 or gun ban. He stressed that the measure is a crucial tool to maintain peace and order during the election period and safeguards the integrity of the electoral process.

Marallag thanked law enforcement agencies for their commitment to the safety and security of Cagayan Valley.

"As we move closer to the 2025 national and local elections, the role of the Regional Joint Security Control Center will become even more critical in ensuring a peaceful, fair, and secure electoral process. Let's remain vigilant and committed to our shared goal of protecting our community and upholding the democratic process," he said.
