Defending champion University of Santo Tomas vented its ire on University of the East, 84-62, to get back on track in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Saturday, Nov. 9.
The Golden Tigresses, who were coming from a 76-70 loss to the NU Lady Bulldogs last Wednesday, Nov. 6, bared their fangs in the third quarter to push the Lady Warriors deeper into the standings.
UST improved to 10-2 at second while UE suffered its 11th defeat in 12 games.
Tacky Tacatac produced an impressive output as she piled up 25 points -- including six triples -- with two rebounds, three assists and four steals while Kent Pastrana and Karylle Sierba backed her up with 18 and 16.
Kamba Kone and Rachel Calayanga both tallied 22 points with the former adding 15 rebounds which all went down the drain.
The Espana-based squad has two games left against La Salle (3-8) and Adamson (8-3) which is hoping as well for a Final Four bonus.
Meanwhile, Kaycee Dela Rosa steered Ateneo once again and clipped FEU, 85-70, for their third straight victory to bolster their semifinal bid.
The reigning women’s MVP put up a gigantic double-double of 24 points and 18 rebounds with three assists, a steal and two blocks.
Sarah Makanjuola also starred with 21 markers and snagged 11 rebounds for the Lady Eagles, who enhanced their record to 7-5 at fourth.
