TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Nearly 50,000 residents in Cagayan Valley were affected by typhoon ‘’Marce,’’ the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Region 2 said.
Mylene Attaban of the DSWD-Region 2 Disaster Response Management Division said that 15,915 families or 48,822 individuals were evacuated from 360 barangays in three provinces in the region.
Eighty-seven percent are staying in evacuation centers and the rest are with their relatives.
Cagayan has the highest number of affected families with 15,518 or 47,629 individuals, Isabela, 371 families or 1,112 individuals, and Batanes, 27 families or 81 individuals.
Attaban said that close monitoring is ongoing on the effect of the typhoon in the towns of Santa Ana, Alacapan, Lal-lo, Lasam, Pamplona, and Santa Praxedes in Cagayan.
She said that the DSWD has distributed P2 million in humanitarian assistance to affected residents.
Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc has distributed P55.8 million worth of assistance from the provincial government of Ilocos Norte to 16,789 farmers severely affected by super typhoon “Julian” in October.
They received hybrid corn seeds, assorted vegetable seeds, rice seeds, and fertilizers, that would enable them to restore crops in their lands damaged by extreme flooding and destructive winds.
Julian impacted over 195,000 individuals in Ilocos Norte, with damages and losses reaching nearly P1.1 billion, according to a Provincial Resiliency Council report dated Oct. 7, 2024.
Manotoc reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to support farmers. Farmers thanked Manotoc for his immediate response.
