Gov't ramps up affordable housing for OFWs under national program

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have formalized an agreement to expand access to affordable housing for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) under the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.

DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar and DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac signed Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1, Series of 2024, prioritizing OFWs and their families under the 4PH Program, with backing from the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG Fund).

The new directive simplifies the housing application process for OFWs, ensuring they and their immediate families are among the program’s top beneficiaries.

The DHSUD said that the initiative aims to provide OFWs with a clear and efficient path to homeownership, acknowledging their vital contribution to the nation’s economy.

“It is an honor to serve our OFWs, even in a small way, by supporting them in their journey toward homeownership,” Acuzar said, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to recognizing the sacrifices made by OFWs for their families and the country.

Cacdac expressed appreciation for the collaboration with DHSUD and Pag-IBIG, calling the initiative a gesture of gratitude for OFWs' economic impact on the Philippines.

Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Marilene Acosta also extended her full support for the directive, reiterating the agency's commitment to provide accessible housing opportunities and services tailored to the needs of OFWs.

The signing of the joint circular, building on a previous memorandum of understanding, now offers OFWs a more efficient route to affordable housing under the program.
