A 25-year-old man who was allegedly behind a series of motorcycle thefts in Cainta, Rizal, was arrested by the Tanay Municipal Police Station (MPS) on Tuesday, November 5.
According to the victim, he parked his motorcycle in front of his workplace at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday. However, he discovered that his vehicle was already missing at approximately 3 p.m.
The suspect, identified as ‘Japeng,’ was arrested after being caught by the victim’s son driving his father’s motorcycle.
According to the authorities, the victim’s son spotted the suspect while traveling along Manila East Road in Barangay Tandang Kutyo, Tanay, at approximately 7 p.m.
He immediately approached and questioned the suspect, who attempted to flee but was quickly stopped due to heavy traffic. Authorities patrolling the area noticed the commotion, prompting them to provide assistance, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
The victim’s stolen motorcycle and several keys allegedly used by the suspect in other carnapping incidents were recovered.
An investigation also revealed that the suspect has an outstanding warrant for car theft in Cainta. Police said the suspect is now detained at the Tanay Custodial Facility and will be charged for violations of the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.
