Grade 10 students from Negros Occidental shine in South Korea robotics tilt

BACOLOD CITY – Six Grade 10 students from two public high schools in Negros Occidental bagged major awards in the International Robotics Competition of the 9th World Innovative Technology Challenge at Chonnam National University in Gwangju, South Korea on Nov. 2 and 3.

Marciela Valdez and Erich Joy Grande from Ramon Torres National High School (RTNHS) in Bago City won gold for their project “Deploy, Discover, Declare: A Multi-Device System for Comprehensive Monitoring and Data-Driven Protection of Irrawaddy Dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris).”

Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo lauded the two students for exhibiting exceptional skills in the competition. Their achievement brought pride and honor not just for Bagonhons but also to Filipinos as a whole, he said.

Yulo said that the city government will provide incentives to the students for their achievement.

Lettynia Mellisze Sorongon and Jorge Nathalie Dequilla from Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School (DMLMHS) in Silay City won silver medals through their robot called "AmBOT: Autonomous Marine Robot for Oil Spill Cleanup with Integrated Desalination System."

Lyn Piedad and Akysha Nicole Grande also from DMLMHS earned bronze medals by showcasing their robot called “FiFee: Solar Powered Automatic Fish Feeder with Real-time Water Condition Monitoring and Response System."

Prior to South Korea, these students competed in the innovative project ideas category of the Provincial Robotics Competition: 4th Battle of Bots 2024 organized by the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC), Pinoy Robot Games (PRG), and the PRG’s National Robotics Competition.
