Duterte congratulates US President-elect Trump

DAVAO CITY – Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has congratulated Donald John Trump for winning the US presidential election.

“I extended my warm congratulations on your (Trump) election as President of the United States of America. I hope your new mandate will bring renewed optimism and strength to the American people during these challenging times,” Duterte said in his congratulatory message to Trump.

Duterte said he looks forward to the Trump administration’s success and shared aspirations for greater peace and prosperity for their countries and people.

“Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration,” Duterte said.

The former Chief Executive is friends with Trump.

Trump, who was was first elected in 2016 while the Philippines was under the leadership of Duterte, defeated Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democratic party.
