Style Weekend: A quick escape to Imus-based food spot Café 10/23

Coffee. Croissant. Cavite

When it comes to a quick out-of-town trip, what usually comes to mind is an escape to Batangas, a relaxing day at the hot springs in Laguna, or simply a coffee experience in Tagaytay. As the urban scene in Manila grows busier each day, people are increasingly looking to these spots as havens to unwind and find refuge. Now, there’s a new hangout spot offering a refreshing weekend retreat.

Café 10/23

Established last year, Café 10/23 has quickly gained a reputation for its sumptuous baked goods and brewed drinks in Imus, Cavite. Founder Laurice Annelle “LA” Gonzaga-Cantimbuhan drew from her own experiences when creating this cozy food destination. Before, Caviteños seeking quality pastries and coffee had to drive all the way to Alabang and to satisfy their cravings.

“Our goal at Café 10/23 is for Caviteños to experience high-quality food and service, like what’s available in Metro Manila, without having to leave Cavite,” LA explains.

Beyond the aesthetic

While Café 10/23 initially aimed to serve locals, its clientele quickly grew, with diners from Batangas, Laguna, and Manila visiting on weekends to savor its offerings. From a starting capacity of 120 seats, the café expanded to accommodate 300 guests, now serving over 1,000 patrons on weekends.

At the heart of Café 10/23 are two things: family legacy and community empowerment. The café’s name honors two beloved family members—Imus City Board Member Ony Cantimbuhan and their late grandmother, Rosalinda Gonzaga.

The dining area is adorned with vintage seats from Lola Rosalinda’s home, paired with custom furniture crafted by local artisans. A striking centerpiece in its al fresco space—a jeepney—pays homage to the Gonzaga Body Builders’ legacy of manufacturing passenger jeeps from the ’60s to the ’80s.

“We included these elements to honor where we came from,” LA tells Style Weekend. “We want this place to be a legacy for my dad and lola. We want to create a space where people can make memories.”

Comfort dining

The family’s story is also infused into the café’s menu. One highlight, the Beef Tapa plate, is made using her grandmother’s recipe. Another must-try from the Breakfast Club menu is the 10/23 Breakfast Platter, showcasing the renowned Imus Longganisa.

Café 10/23 also prides itself on its in-house pastries. Apart from its Butter Croissants, those with a sweet tooth can indulge in treats like the Ube Leche Flan Danish and the signature Chocolate Cake. These desserts pair well with its brewed beverages made from Deuces Coffee Beans. Signature coffee blends include the White Chocolate Mocha Latte, Tiramisu Latte, Sea Salt Spanish Latte, and Matcha Latte, while non-coffee drinkers can enjoy options like Butterfly Pea Lemonade, Strawberry Lemon Soda, Yuzu Soda, or LA’s favorite Iced Tea.

A love letter to Caviteños

To further celebrate Caviteño’s creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, Café 10/23 has opened its doors to local creatives and small business owners. On the second floor, guests can view works by Imus-based artist Christian Tamondong, and the café has plans to host more pop-ups where local business owners can showcase their products for free.

In response to its growing popularity, LA recently announced expansion plans, including a larger commissary for the bakehouse and kitchen, a new indoor dining space that can serve as an events hall, and two more branches within Cavite by 2025.

Café 10/23 is located at Imus Blvd., Malagasang II-C, Imus, Cavite. It’s open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and weekends from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
