Manila Water embarks on P359-million tech optimization project

To efficiently help with the operations and maintenance of its water facilities, East zone concessionaire Manila Water Co. will roll out its integration of communication and automation technologies at the Calawis and Medium-Term Common Line (MTCL) Water Supply System Projects Phase 1.

The Calawis-MTCL System Integration Package 7, valued at P359 million, would upgrade various facilities in Antipolo City, including the Lucban Pumping Station and Reservoir, the Maguey Pumping Station and Reservoir, the Cabading and Calawis Booster, as well as the Calawis Water Treatment Plant.

Set to be completed in December 2025, it would help optimize its water supply service to 900,000 consumers in the area through enhanced installation of communication towers, utilization of microwave radio technology, and underground and aerial fiber optic cabling.

The project would also have sensors to monitor crucial parameters like the water pressure and flow rate, which would ensure safe and efficient operations throughout the system.

Additionally, Manila Water would add a Central Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system that would have real-time data monitoring, and harmonized operations in the concessionaire’s facilities, as well as be able to report any early disruptions within the water supply network.

This is part of the tech upgrade to monitor crucial parameters such as water pressure and flow rate, ensuring safe and efficient operations throughout the system.

Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water’s communication affairs director said that this development would help its water supply facilities be up to date with technological innovations.

“Manila Water considers these technological improvements as vital ingredients to delivering quality service to our growing customer base,” he said.

Being under the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), Manila Water covers 23 cities and municipalities in the Eastern part of Metro Manila in Rizal, including Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, and parts of Quezon City and Manila. The towns of Angono, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Cardona, Jalajala, Morong, Pililia, Rodriguez, Tanay, Taytay, Teresa, San Mateo, and Antipolo.
