Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the opening ceremony of a pet clinic and animal shelter in Vitas, Tondo, where pets may be brought for free medical care and attention.
"Batid ng marami na ang pagkakaroon ng pet ay magandang stress reliever. Totoong nakakatanggal ng pagod kapag pag-uwi mo sa bahay ay sasalubungin ka ng masaya at aktibong alaga mong hayop (Many people know that having a pet is a good stress reliever. It really relieves fatigue when you come home to be greeted by your happy and active pet)," said the mayor, who owns 15 dogs.
She also calls on Manileños to know the responsibilities when buying or accepting pets and be responsible owners.
"Sabi nga po, mas masarap pa minsan na kasama ang alagang hayop dahil mas loyal pa silang kaibigan (They say, sometimes it's even better to be with a pet because they are more loyal friends)," she added.
According to the mayor, apart from x-ray, laboratory and surgery rooms, the facilities also offer pet grooming and will also serve as the city pound where stray dogs may be brought.
The mayor was joined in the inauguration by Councilors Terrence Alibarbar, Fa Fugoso, Nino dela Cruz and Marjun Isidro, along with Veterinary Inspection Board chief Dr. Nick Santos and City Engineer Moises Alcantara.
