Manalo hopes US' support for PH won't change under new president
The Philippines is hoping that Washington’s support for Manila will not change although a new administration is set to take over following its presidential elections.
“I hope not,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo told Manila Bulletin on Wednesday, Nov. 6, when asked if he thinks the United States government would change its support for the Philippines in a possible Trump or Harris administration.
US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson already assured Manila that ties between the two countries would remain steadfast, which has been tested over a period of time.
The funding for US’ assistance to the Philippines is being approved by the US Congress, which has a strong bipartisanship, according to Carlson.
And since there are "as many Republicans as Democrats who are enthusiastically supporting the US-Philippines alliance," Carlson was positive about the future relations of both countries.
"I am extremely confident that the US-Philippines relations will remain as steadfast friends, as ironclad allies, as well as partners in prosperity no matter who wins the elections in the United States," she said.
