Las Piñas Council discusses workers protection program, new school building

The Las Piñas City Council convened on Monday, November 4, discussing welfare protection of domestic workers and the construction of a 10-storey city-run college building.

According to Vice Mayor April Aguilar, Coun. Lord Linley Aguilar endorsed a draft ordinance proposing the establishment of a City Registry System for Kasamabahays or domestic workers within barangays. The proposed ordinance aims to protect the welfare of domestic workers and their employers.

The council also reviewed a contract from the Office of the City Engineer for the construction of the 10-storey Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College of Las Piñas Building in Barangay Talon Dos.

The vice mayor said the project, valued at nearly P100 million, is set to be executed by KME Design and Construction and is just awaiting for ratification by the city council.

Aguilar said the session also covered requests for waivers of penalties and interest on various businesses and transfer taxes. 

She added the Joint Committees on Appropriations and Ways and Means recommended the approval of the requests, ensuring tax relief for affected individuals and businesses.
