BACOLOD CITY – Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod police director, said that he proposed to Mayor Albee Benitez to add three new police stations to complement the existing 10 here.
Coronica said that the initial plan is part of a super city roadmap, as he acknowledged the development of the city, which calls for more police stations to also expand its security coverage.

He said that based on the existing law, a highly-urbanized city should have a ratio of one policeman for every 500 individuals.
However, at present, the Bacolod City Police Office has one policeman for every more than 500 individuals, considering the floating population, including those temporarily residing, working, and the visitors here, Coronica said.
Coronica said that the proposed three additional police stations will be in Barangays Banago, Estefania, and Vista Alegre, as these areas have a big scope.
Currently, Barangay Banago is under Police Station 3 while Barangays Vista Alegre and Estefania are under Police Stations 7 and 4, respectively.
Aside from the development, the BCPO considered the increased population in these areas.
Coronica said that based on the staffing pattern, a police station should have at least 54 personnel.
He also cited the plan to install more closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in strategic areas here in coordination with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) for easy monitoring and response to flood and crimes.
