Marcos leads distribution of shelter materials to 'Kristine' victims

President Marcos has led the distribution of shelter materials and various assistance to families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine in Batangas as part of the government's program "conveyor belt of aid."

Marcos on Monday, Nov. 4, led the turnover of 159 kits of housing materials from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to the municipality of Talisay.

Simultaneously, a total of 400 kits of housing materials were distributed in the municipalities of Agoncillo and Laurel.

The amount of distributed kits reached P8.5 million, including the P6 million donated by Metrobank Foundation.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, each family received home materials and essentials (HOMEs) packages composed of GI roofs, marine plywood, lumbers and nails for the repair of damaged homes.

DHSDUB Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, who joined the President in the ceremony, said that upon receiving the report from DHSUD Regional Office on the severe damages to residential structures in Batangas province, the department deployed teams to coordinate with local chief executives and gathered data on the number of affected and displaced families.

"This is DHSUD’s contribution to the President's call for a conveyor belt of aid for typhoon victims. We will exhaust all available resources to extend assistance to our kababayans," Acuzar said.

Aside from a housing repair package, the DHSUD also provided cash assistance to families whose houses were either damaged or destroyed during disasters.

Under the department's Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program (IDSAP), DHSUD can provide cash assistance of P30,000 to families with totally damaged houses and P10,000 for those with partially damaged residences brought about by man-made or natural disasters.
