Fewer crimes logged during 'Undas' in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office based here reported a 12 percent decrease in crimes during the observance of “Undas” from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.

Police recorded only 22 incidents this year compared to the 25 in the same period last year.

Police Col. Rainerio de Chavez, Negros Occidental police director, attributed this to the heightened security measures implemented by police stations such as Police Assistance Desks (PADs) and deployment of beat patrollers, road safety marshals and traffic personnel, and covert police personnel.

De Chavez cited city and municipal police stations for ensuring peace and order in the province during the occasion.

He also thanked the public for their cooperation that also contributed to the total peace and order situation.

Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod police director, said on Monday, Nov. 4, that Undas was generally peaceful here, with no major incidents reported.

Coronica said that peace and order was maintained due to the heightened security measures, crime prevention efforts, and dedicated police visibility.

The BCPO implemented a comprehensive security plan that included the deployment of 250 personnel in strategic areas, cemeteries, and terminals, and 24-hour monitoring.

This achievement underscored the dedication of the police officers and the cooperation of the community that responded positively to advisories on safety and security, the BCPO added.

Coronica thanked the people of Bacolod and visitors for their cooperation and adherence to safety guidelines.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-District Southern Visayas recorded 18,889 passengers in Negros Island Region (NIR) on All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.

Commodore Ludovico Librilla Jr., commander of PCG District Southern Visayas, said that there were 9,739 inbound and 9,150 outbound travelers across the seaports in Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, and Siquijor.

A total of 499 personnel were deployed and 273 vessels were inspected as of Nov. 2.
