DTI fetes Western Visayas’ most competitive LGUs


ILOILO CITY – The Competitiveness Bureau of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) awarded the five most competitive local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas region on Nov. 5.

DTI-6 Regional Director Rachel Nufable said the awards highlight the importance of collaboration to enhance local competitiveness and drive sustainable development in Western Visayas.

THE provincial government of Guimaras is awarded as the most competitive province of Western Visayas region in 2024.  (DTI-6)

The awards were the results of the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) that ranked the performances of 133 LGUs based on economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation.

Guimaras was awarded as the most competitive province.

Iloilo City was cited as the most competitive highly urbanized city and Aklan was named as the most competitive province.

Roxas City, the provincial capital of Capiz province, was awarded as the most competitive component city, and Kalibo, the provincial capital of Aklan province, was cited as the most competitive first to second-class municipality.

Leganes town in Iloilo province was the most competitive third to fourth-class municipality. San Lorenzo town in Guimaras province was the most competitive fifth to sixth-class municipality.

The CMCI is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council  with assistance from the United States Agency for International Development.
